20 CFR §404.1571–404.1576 — Substantial Gainful Activity

SSA evaluates whether monthly earnings exceed Substantial Gainful Activity. The 2026 thresholds are $1,690 (non-blind) and $2,830 (blind). Earnings above SGA bar SSDI eligibility regardless of medical findings; below SGA, the medical evaluation proceeds. The Trial Work Period rules under §404.1592 may apply during the first nine months of work above the TWP threshold.
