20 CFR §404.130 — Insured status (quarters of coverage)

SSDI requires both medical disability AND insured status under Title II. Insured status is established by accumulating quarters of coverage and is preserved through the Date Last Insured. After DLI, the claimant must prove disability onset before that date — a materially higher evidentiary bar. This estimator approximates DLI from the last work date; verify against the SSA earnings record (SEQY/DEQY) for production decisions.
